ecogise have completed the installation of an off-grid domestic power system for the Griffiths' new
home near Blenheim. At around $40,000 the ecogise off-grid system cost considerably less than the
cost of connecting to the main power grid and the great thing is, they will not have to endure
ongoing power bills.
The home is powered predominantly by photovoltaic solar panels which are supported by an efficient
diesel generator for periods when there is a lack of solar input.
The Griffiths have reduced their energy demands by using a Rayburn wood stove to heat the home,
their hot water and cook their meals. Efficient appliances and lighting have also been used where
possible throughout the home.
